Annual seedlings are an essential part of most modern day gardens. With many new strains of plants being developed each year there is that tantalising desire to improve the colour in the garden with every new planting season. These annuals give us a rewarding experience throughout the year and it should not be looked on as a continuous tiresome chore of removing and replanting as the seasons change.
Gardening is a natural exercise, breathing in fresh air (provided you do not live in a heavy polluted atmosphere), entertaining your friends in relaxing atmosphere and learning about the simple things in life as you watch the seed send forth their new growth when they spring out from the ground.

MEASURING THE FLOWER BED
How often have you stood alongside that flower bed in the garden and asked yourself this question:- Did I plant 100 seedlings last year or was it 125? Perhaps you called into the local Nursery or Garden Centre and laid the problem onto the sales person. Well here is a rough guide that might help you save over purchasing of plants. If your flower bed measures around a metre wide by three metres long, you will need 120 seedlings if the variety is planted about 15 cm apart. For the varieties with spacing of 20 cm, you will need 70 plants and for those with 25-30 cm spacing you will need around 40 seedlings. To create a faster impact with your garden bed you can plant the flower seedlings around 3 cm less apart and the garden bed will fill with foliage in nearly half the time.
