  plant lists - Roses
Roses MetaRoses are a must for any garden lover who has a sunny spot in the garden and Heynes Garden Centre has a large selection for you to come and choose from.

In this modern age roses can be planted at any time of the year providing that stock is still available at the time you need them. However the winter months are still the best time to select a larger range of roses

It is important that the roses are fed with a right type of fertiliser. Remember roses require special attention to keep the growth and flowers healthy. Healthy roses will stand up to disease and weather conditions more than plants under nourished. Their root system is poor, so it is essential when planting out new bare rooted roses in the winter that they have Nitrophoska placed 3cm. below the base of the root system. The same method goes for potted roses. This method will encourage the root system to travel deeper into the soil. Spring, Summer, and Autumn, feed the rose bushes with a Rose Food sprinkled around each plant being sure of keeping the fertiliser 5cm away from the trunk.
Always read the directions on the container before using.
Spring time sprinkle some Cow Manure around the base of each bush and mulch the ground with an Organic Garden Mulch to help retain the moisture from escaping from the ground below. You can also use a wetting agent such as Easy Wetta which will help to keep the moisture in the ground around the root ball.

Roses like to be planted in a sunny, open aspect and the soil needs to have good drainage. Fungus can cause a lot of problems on your prized rose bushes and using the right product can help control fungus diseases. TRIFORINE

OPEN ROOTED ROSES (Winter Planting)
When selecting bare rooted roses make sure that both the bud union and the stems are healthy and strong. There should be no withered dry stems or long, soft, yellow shoots appearing along the branches.

CONTAINER GROWN ROSES
Roses grown in containers can be planted at any time of the year providing that the weather is not in extreme heat. Go to the fact sheet site and refer to our General Planting Guide for the Garden. This will give you some good hints on container planting.
