fact sheets - Cacti & Succulents
WHY GROW CACTI AND SUCCULENTS?

Cacti and Succulents plants like to grow by themselves. You do not need to fuss over them, just sit back, observe and enjoy them. They are plants that once someone gives you a cutting or a potted plant, you will not be able to stop collecting them. Cacti and Succulents make ideal plants to grow in bowl type pots as mini gardens or in a single pot on a sunlit window. If you have a hot, sunny spot in the the garden where the ground is always drying out these plants could be ideal for you to grow. The flowers on most Cacti are so brilliant with "neon", "fluorescent" or"metallic" characteristics that will have your friends staring with amazement.

Give a child a potted Cacti for a Birthday or Christmas present and you will end up with plants everywhere.
That is how I started when I was about ten years old. A customer friend of my Father gave me a tiny succulent plant and by the next year I had collected over 20 species of Cacti and Succulents. The following year the original glass house, which still stands at our Beulah Park Garden Centre, had all the support timbers covered with these plants that had multiplied. By the time I was 12 years old the Cacti and Succulent plants started to invade the plant benches and a confrontation of who needed the glass house space commenced. Of course Father, owning the nursery won and so I had to sell of some of them. Since the year 2000 this glass house has now been filled with a wide range of Cacti and Succulents plants.
